THE COSMETIC REPORT
October 25, 1996

I had such fun this week testing all the products from last week's $10 Challenge! What's The $10 Challenge? I let loose at my local drugstore with $10 and an idea to see just how many cool cosmetics I could find. I found some pretty amazing deals!

Jane True to You sheer foundation in Fair $.69 (trial size)
For the first time ever, I found a good color match with drugstore foundation! With such a great selection of colors, sizes, and formulas, just about anything Jane is well worth the whopping $3!

Jane Barely Lips Sheer Lipstick in Partly Peach $.89 (trial size)
This color is my current favorite. It feels moist, wears well, and doesn't get crumbly or dry. I even like this better than "Browned Down Red", the current "in" Jane color.

Prestige eye shadow in C-26 Ivory $2.69
Prestige is a serious player in the eye shadow market, with nice colors and textures that blend well, all for under $3. Maybe next time I could choose a better color for my complexion, though. This one would be great for someone with yellow undertones, not pink like mine.

Nat Robbins Creme to Powder Shadow plus Base in Pretty Pink $1.99
I had the most fun with the Nat Robbins creme to powder eye shadow. The texture and color are comparable to those new expensive ones at the department stores, for about one-tenth the price!

Nat Robbins Stay-Put Lipcolor in Misty $2.99
Again, I could have picked a more neutral color ("Misty" was very pink on me), the Stay-Put lipcolor has to be one of the best of the long-wearing formulas out today. It goes on smooth and looks natural.

Thanks to everyone for all of the great comments in the Cosmetic Connection guestbook. October is almost over, so be sure to share your thoughts if you would like to be eligible to win this month's Beauty Pack.

It's time again for the Cosmetic Poll, a periodic survey on beauty-related topics. The October poll question is: What is the most expensive cosmetic or skin care product you have ever purchased, and how much was it? Please email your response to me at heather@kleinman.com. Answers will be shared in next week's report.

For my final tidbit this week, be sure to check out the Elizabeth Arden free sample offer in this month's Glamour magazine. All you have to do is rip out the page and take it to your local EA counter. The very elaborate samples are tiny versions of the Ceramides Time Complex Capsules and moisturizers. Even if you aren't an EA fan, the tiny containers and fancy packaging are fun by themselves!
