Laura Mercier
report by Anne of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

I recently had a make over at the Laura Mercier counter. For 45 pampering minutes, Rose did a full makeup application.

The best part of the make over was the enthusiasm of the artist. She really loved what she did and it showed! She also put absolutely no pressure on me to buy a thing, and she sent me home with generous samples of Laura Mercier's foundation and primer.

The make over emphasis was on perfecting the skin with the Foundation Primer, Oil-free foundation, Secret Camouflage Concealer, and Loose Powder. The Blush Ivory foundation reminded me of Bobbi Brown's Oil-free in texture. It had excellent coverage, but unfortunately it turned pink on me as the day wore on. The primer was a gel-like product and I noticed no difference in the way the make-up wore with or without it. The Secret Camouflage Concealer offered excellent coverage and lasted very well. The artist explained the only way to use this product was to mix it with a moisturizer into a paste and apply with a concealer brush. It has a thick unworkable texture if you apply it on its own. This may be a good option for people who can patiently apply it.

The Wild Bouquet blush was nice but didn't seem to be that much different from any other lines. The eyeshadows Buttercream and Stormy Night were nice, subtle matte colors. What surprised me was for $15.00 you get so little! Just 1.5 grams.

English Rose was a lovely color lipstick, and it wore well but was nothing exceptional. The black mascara was okay, but didn't seem to lengthen my lashes much.

Overall, I think Mercier is a high priced, quality line. Someone with oily skin may be very happy with the foundation if they can get a good match. The loose powder has a wonderful silky smooth feeling and wore well. The brushes were okay, but even the Mercier artist used some MAC brushed of hers as she preferred them.
