Laura Mercier
report by Connie of the Cosmetic Connection Product Panel

I've never had much experience with her line but since I live near a Nordstrom store and saw the counter, I just had to take a look. I looked at their skincare and makeup. I scored some samples and got a little makeover as well.

Pressed Powder ($28)
The makeup artist at the counter tested their pressed powder on me in "deepest beige" which I thought would be too light, but ended up matching my skin really well. I liked the fact that it gave good coverage, yet didn't feel heavy or look like pancake makeup. I actually bought it.

Foundation Primer ($27)
I usually am skeptical about products like this because I think that your foundation shouldn't need another pricey product to work better. It's sounded gimmicky to me, but since I got the sample, I figured I'd try it. Unfortunately I was sucked right in. I really noticed a difference in the way my skin felt after smoothing this on after my moisturizer and under my foundation. My foundation did go on smoother and covered my flaws better than with my regular foundation alone. I probably wouldn't buy this since I don't wear foundation everyday.

One Step Cleanser ($35)
I got a sample of this one too. I certainly was not going to pay $35 bucks for a cleanser I hadn't tried first. I really did like this cleanser. It removes makeup well and didn't leave my face feeling dry afterward. There's really nothing special about this cleanser to justify paying $35 bucks though. It's just a good basic cleanser that leaves your skin feeling clean and soft. I can get the same result from many other lower priced cleansers on the market.

Moisturizer Cream with SPF 15 ($38)
Again, this is a good basic moisturizer. I liked it a lot, but not enough to spend $38.00 on it, especially for 2 lousy ounces. What I did like was that the SPF didn't leave my face looking ashen. Too many sunscreens I've tried make my skin look ashy and gray. However, I would pick up Neutrogena Healthy Skin lotion with SPF 15 that works just as well and has a much lower price.

Firming Eye Cream ($32)
I got a sample of this as well. I don't know how well this eye cream works to firm the eye area, but I did like that it wasn't greasy or oily. My eye area felt nicely hydrated and prepped for eye makeup. I like Clinique All about Eyes just as well (for $25.00) and even better, L'Oreal Eye Defense, which is even cheaper.
